About QED

The bounty of an English summer is laid out in an English orchard. We hope that this page will give you an insight into who we are, what we stand for, and how you can enjoy yourself with us and our associates.

Why QED?

Some of you might recall this abbreviation as the blessed relief of arrival (or, conversely, the unremitting agony of unattainability) at the end of a mathematical proof: can't you just smell the chalk, and picture the ink-stained desks and chipped protractors? But here, you need have no worries on that score, since we are really only concentrating on the goal, not on the worries of the journey. QED means only joy and excitement at the thought of good-quality food and drink: Quality Eating and Drinking.

What is Quality Eating and Drinking London Ltd?

We are a (very) small company, organised for all Londoners and visitors, by a group of Londoners who have a diverse range of interests and expertise across the whole landscape of eating and drinking. We at QED have come together to share our love of good food and wine as widely as we can. We have personal links with widespread areas of the world, so we can bring our world to you in a truly London context. Being local, with a London focus, we can be agile enough to fit into London's ever-changing environment. We aren't a membership organisation with fee structures and administration to worry about: we simply charge what we need (if we need) in order to cover the costs of our events present and future.

We are neither funded nor otherwise underwritten by anyone connected with the food business, so we can be properly independent of any producer or intermediary trying to press a product upon us, beholden to no-one but ourselves to decide policies, priorities and activities. This independence is vitally important for us, because without it we risk being discouraged from organising open comparative events, where a sponsor's rivals might be introduced into the mix, thus drawing consumer judgment away from the straight and narrow of the party line. It is twenty or more years since the pan-European picnic, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the one-party state in our continent: we should not give succour to any attempts to re-instate those ideas in the more local, more aesthetic context of a group dedicated to the advocacy of good food and consumer access to information.

What does QED do?

We celebrate and advocate food and drink which is prepared and produced with skill, and with due respect for the journey from ingredients to ingestion.

But that's not all we aim to do. We shall engage with groups, campaigns, activities and the political establishment on matters relating to our principles regarding food and drink. One of our key assets is this website: read about our website conventions to ensure that you get the most out of our content.

How can people help QED?

In short, by supporting what we do and the people we work with. Buy from our market traders, both at our markets and at their other locations. With your help in supporting our activities, we shall be able to raise the profile of quality eating and drinking for all Londoners, all arguments laid out and proven.
